Washington, D.C. – March 20— Today the New York Court of Appeals struck down a law that would have let non-citizens vote in elections. The law would have made more than 800,000 non-citizens eligible to vote in municipal contests such as mayoral races.
In a 6-1 decision, the judges upheld the state Constitution and the U.S. Constitution and are clear that voting is a sacred right that is reserved for United States citizens only.
