Three Bills Sponsored by Congressman Langworthy to Enhance Government Efficiency and Accountability Advance Out of Committees

September 18, 2024

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Congressman Langworthy announced that three critical pieces of legislation he sponsors — H.R. 2892, the Weather Alert Response and Notification Act (WARN Act), H.R. 9566, Source Code Harmonization and Reuse in Information Technology (SHARE IT) Act, and H.R. 3642, the Executive Branch Accountability and Transparency Act — were passed by their respective committees of jurisdiction.

"Today's advancement of these critical bills out of committee is a significant step toward increasing transparency and efficiency in our government,” said Congressman Langworthy. “From the WARN Act to keep Americans safe during extreme weather, to the SHARE IT Act to reduce redundant government spending and the Executive Branch Accountability and Transparency Act to ensure financial disclosures are out in the open, I’m proud to lead these efforts to ensure our government works better for the American people.”

The House Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure voted to advance H.R. 2892, the Weather Alert Response and Notification Act (WARN Act), with bipartisan support. Introduced by Congressman Langworthy in response to emergency warning failures during Winter Storm Elliott, this legislation would initiate a new study in the Government Accountability Office (GAO) on the effectiveness of local alerting systems and provide training to modernize and strengthen emergency notification infrastructure across the country.

The House Committee on Oversight and Accountability took a bipartisan vote to pass the H.R. 9566, Source Code Harmonization and Reuse in Information Technology (SHARE IT) Act, to require federal agencies to share custom-developed software, eliminating duplicate contracts and millions in federal spending. Members of the committee also voted to pass H.R. 3642, the Executive Branch Accountability and Transparency Act, to create a central, public database for the financial disclosure and ethics documents of Executive Branch officials and political appointees.
