Langworthy Visits Elmira Fire Headquarters, Announces Over $276,000 in Federal Funding

ELMIRA, N.Y. – Today, Congressman Nick Langworthy (NY-23) made a visit to the City of Elmira’s Fire Headquarters to meet with first responders and announce an Assistance to Firefighters Grant from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) in the amount of $276,545. Congressman Langworthy was joined at the fire department by Elmira Mayor Dan Mandell.

“It’s an honor to thank Elmira’s firefighters in person for putting their lives on the line for our community every single day,” said Congressman Langworthy. “It’s always been my priority to do what I can to ensure our first responders have the resources they need to do their jobs safely. I’m proud to announce this significant grant that will enable the City of Elmira to purchase new gear and enhance the capabilities of our local fire department.”

Mayor Dan Mandell said, “We are grateful for Congressman Langworthy's partnership with the City of Elmira to ensure the safety and well-being of our community. This funding will play a pivotal role in equipping our firefighters with the latest tools and resources they need to carry out their duties safely and effectively.”

The City of Elmira intends to use this grant to purchase 40 new Scott Air Packs and 80 air bottles. Congressman Langworthy sent a letter to FEMA to advocate for this grant on behalf of the city in May.

According to FEMA, the primary goal of these grants is to enhance the safety and effectiveness of first responders while also improving their ability to respond to emergencies and disasters. They aim to address the evolving needs of first responders, from advanced equipment acquisition and updating aging vehicles to safety improvement and training programs.
