December 21, 2023

DUNKIRK, NY – Today, Congressman Nick Langworthy (NY-23) made a visit to the Dunkirk Fire Department to meet with first responders and announce an Assistance to Firefighters Grant from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) in the amount of $76,007. Congressman Langworthy was joined by Fire Chief Michael Edwards.

“It’s an honor to thank our dedicated firefighters in person and tour the Dunkirk Fire Station,” said Congressman Langworthy. “I’m proud to announce this significant investment to enable the City of Dunkirk to purchase needed gear, enhancing the capabilities of our local fire department. It’s always been my priority to do what I can to ensure they have the resources they need to do their jobs safely and I look forward to our continued partnership.”

The City of Dunkirk intends to use this grant to purchase 14 new radios for the fire department.

According to FEMA, the primary goal of these grants is to enhance the safety and effectiveness of first responders while also improving their ability to respond to emergencies and disasters. They aim to address the evolving needs of first responders, from advanced equipment acquisition and updating aging vehicles to safety improvement and training programs.
