Congressman Nick Langworthy Votes To End Biden Admin’s Overreach With Redefining WOTUS and Protects Free Speech

March 9, 2023

WASHINGTON, DC – Today, Congressman Nick Langworthy voted for H.J. Res 27 to provide Congressional disapproval to the Department of the Army, Corps of Engineers, Department of Defense and the Environmental Protection Agency relating to a revised definition of Waters of the United States (WOTUS) that would include everything from streams to small creeks and puddles and expands unelected bureaucrats' control over families, small businesses, farmers, ranchers, homebuilders, infrastructure builders, and states and local communities across the country. Congressman Langworthy spoke during the rules debate in support of the measure. You can watch his remarks here

In addition to H.J. Res 27, Congressman Langworthy also voted for H.R. 140 – Protecting Speech from Government Interference Act. This bill expands the Hatch Act - the law prohibiting federal employees from engaging in political activities in their official capacity - to expressly prohibit government officials from using their authority or influence to promote censorship of speech or pressure a social media company to censor speech. This is just another step forward in fulfilling our commitment to a future that’s built on freedom from our Commitment to America plan.

On H.J. Res 27, Congressman Langworthy said, “Our farmers should be focused on production and growing and maintaining their operations, not hiring expensive outside consultants to help them navigate a maze of new burdensome government regulations with the Biden EPA's new WOTUS rule. I was proud to join in on the debate and be the voice of the 800 farm operations that make up New York’s 23rdCongressional District.”

On H.R 140, Congressman Langworthy said, “As a member of the House Oversight and Accountability Committee, we have already started our deep dive into the intertwined roots of Big Tech companies and the Biden Administration. The federal government should have no role in deciding what speech is, pressure the private sector to suppress certain information, or limit the ability of citizens to freely express their own views on private sector internet platform. Voting for this bill is a step in the right direction to fulfill a promise made in our Commitment to America.”

Congressman Nick Langworthy represents the 23rd Congressional District of New York which includes Allegany, Cattaraugus, Chautauqua, Chemung, Schuyler, and Steuben Counties and parts of Erie County. Visit langworthy.house.gov.
