Congressman Nick Langworthy Leads NY GOP Delegation Letter to Hochul to Repeal Disastrous Green Light Law
WASHINGTON, D.C. – On Thursday January 9, 2025, Congressman Nick Langworthy (NY-23) along with Representatives Claudia Tenney (NY-24), Nicole Malliotakis (NY-11), Michael Lawler (NY-17), and Nick LaLota (NY-01) sent a letter calling on Governor Kathy Hochul to immediately repeal New York’s Green Light Laws. Currently, New Yorks Green Light Laws restrict sharing of information between the Department of Motor Vehicles, local law enforcement, and federal immigration authorities endangering the lives of New Yorkers and hinders law enforcements’ ability to keep communities safe.
“With an estimated 759,218 illegal immigrants residing in New York City alone, including 58,000 individuals who are either convicted felons or facing criminal charges, any law that prohibits sharing critical information with federal authorities is both dangerous and indefensible,” a portion of the letter reads.
The members continue: “Migrant crime in New York state alone should be enough to reconsider the Green Light Law. Nevertheless, according to the Department of Homeland Security's 2025 Homeland Threat Assessment, individuals with ties to terrorism are expected to continue exploiting migration flows to enter the U.S. in the coming year. Given this alarming prediction, maintaining Green Light Law policies that obstruct cooperation between state and federal authorities turns a blind eye to public safety in one of the most target-rich environments in the world.”
Congressman Nick Langworthy represents the 23rd Congressional District of New York, including Allegany, Cattaraugus, Chautauqua, Chemung, Schuyler, Steuben, and TiogaCounties, as well as parts of Erie and Niagara Counties. Visit langworthy.house.gov.
