House Agriculture Committee Chairman GT Thompson Travels to NY-23 to Hear Region’s Top Priorities

PORTLAND, NY – Today, Congressman Nick Langworthy (NY-23) hosted a Farm Bill Listening Session at the Cornell Lake Erie Research and Extension Lab in Portland, with more than 100 farmers, agricultural producers, and other stakeholders in attendance. House Committee on Agriculture Chairman Glenn “GT” Thompson (PA-15) traveled to NY’s 23rd Congressional District for the event at Rep. Langworthy’s behest to highlight the region’s top agriculture priorities, including an emphasis on specialty crops.

“An effective Farm Bill is the result of the shared wisdom and collaboration with our hardworking farmers and producers,” said Rep. Langworthy. “Western New York and the Southern Tier have rich agricultural heritage and over 6,200 active farms — it’s an honor that so many traveled to share their challenges and priorities with us today. I also want to thank Chairman Thompson for taking the time to travel to Chautauqua County to ensure our farmers have a seat at the table and for his leadership to ensure we get this year’s Farm Bill right. Because of listening sessions like this, we’ll have a 2023 Farm Bill that reflects the needs of our hardworking farmers, supports rural economies, and promotes American agriculture.”

Rep. Langworthy has made traveling to farms across New York’s 23rd congressional district a top priority since being named to the House Agriculture Committee. The committee is currently crafting a bill that is slated to be voted on this fall.
