July 17, 2024

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Congressman Nick Langworthy (NY-23) announced that the City of Elmira Fire Department has been awarded an Assistance to Firefighters Grant from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) in the amount of $27,009.92.

“I’m proud to announce this FEMA grant for the City of Elmira Fire Department, which will provide needed resources to strengthen their firefighting capabilities and ensure the safety of our community,” said Congressman Langworthy. “This funding will be used to purchase advanced equipment and implement essential training programs, ensuring our first responders are well-equipped to handle emergencies efficiently.”

“Our firefighters are essential to the safety and well-being of Elmira residents, and Congressman Langworthy's continued strong support is deeply appreciated,” said Elmira Mayor Daniel Mandell. "This grant recognizes the vital work they do and will help ensure they have the resources needed to continue their dedicated service to our community."

Earlier this year, Congressman Langworthy hosted a virtual seminar with FEMA officials to help local fire departments understand the application process for these grants.

According to FEMA, the primary goal of these grants is to enhance the safety and effectiveness of first responders while also improving their ability to respond to emergencies and disasters. They aim to address the evolving needs of first responders, from advanced equipment acquisition and updating aging vehicles to safety improvement and training programs.
