Congressman Nick Langworthy Announces $2.5 Million Grant for Cattaraugus Creek Watershed Project Improvements
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congressman Nick Langworthy (NY-23) announced a U.S. Department of Agriculture grant for the rehabilitation of the Conewango Creek No. 13 Watershed Dam within the Cattaraugus Creek Watershed Project in the amount of $2,558,600.
“This major investment in the rehabilitation of the Conewango Creek No. 13 Watershed Dam is absolutely critical for public safety,”said Rep. Langworthy.“This initiative not only maintains our infrastructure but has the potential to save over a thousand lives and 46 homes. I’m proud to advocate for federal resources to ensure the safety and well-being of our community.”
According to the USDA, the purpose of this project is to address dam safety concerns as it currently lacks the hydraulic capacity to safely pass state and federal standards. This could lead to a catastrophic failure that places approximately 1,245 lives, 46 homes, 7 local roads, and other infrastructure at risk.
The cost to rehabilitate this structure is estimated at $3,574,200, of which $2,558,600 will be paid by USDA Watershed Protection and Flood Prevention Program funds, and $1,015,600 will be paid by local funding.
