Congressman Langworthy Votes to Impeach DHS Secretary Mayorkas for His Role in the Border Crisis

February 13, 2024

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congressman Nick Langworthy (NY-23) released the following statement after the House passed impeachment articles for U.S. Department of Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas:

“Under Secretary Mayorkas, we’ve seen record-breaking illegal immigration month over month, amounting to more than 8.3 million border crossings,” said Congressman Langworthy. “He willfully and systemically refused to comply with federal immigration laws, he violated his oath to this country, and he repeatedly lied to Congress and the American people. Congress has a constitutional duty to hold Mayorkas accountable for his role in creating the border crisis, and that’s why I voted to impeach him tonight.”

The House voted on two articles of impeachment: Article I outlines Secretary Mayorkas’ willful and systemic refusal to comply with the law, while Article II regards his breach of public trust by violating his oath to well and faithfully discharge the duties of his office and his statutory duty to control and guard the border of the United States.
