Congressman Langworthy Secures Nearly $670,000 in Federal Grants for Chautauqua and Cattaraugus County Fire Departments

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Congressman Nick Langworthy announced that fire departments across Chautauqua and Cattaraugus Counties have been awarded $669,967.63 in federal grants through the Assistance to Firefighters Grant (AFG) and Staffing for Adequate Fire and Emergency Response (SAFER) programs. These funds will support the acquisition of new equipment, implementation of safety measures, and recruitment and retention initiatives that are critical for the region’s emergency response teams.

“Our local fire departments play a vital role in ensuring public safety in Chautauqua and Cattaraugus Counties,” said Congressman Langworthy. “These grants will directly enhance the capabilities of our first responders, allowing them to better serve our communities and protect lives, while keeping themselves safe and recruiting new members to join their ranks. I’m honored to support the critical work they do every day.”

Grants were awarded to the following departments:

AFG Grants:

• City of Jamestown Fire Department: $330,270.00
• Falconer Village Fire Department: $78,212.38
• Village of Cassadaga Fire Department: $176,848.11
• Randolph Regional EMS Corp: $34,857.14

SAFER Grants:

• Falconer Village Fire Department: $49,780.00 (Recruitment and Retention)

Earlier this year, Congressman Langworthy hosted a virtual seminar with FEMA officials to help local fire departments understand and prepare for the application process for these grants.

The AFG program, administered by FEMA, aims to enhance the safety and readiness of fire departments across the nation by providing funding for essential equipment, protective gear, and training. The SAFER program focuses on increasing staffing levels and retaining qualified firefighters to ensure departments can meet their operational needs.
