Congressman Langworthy Holds Roundtable with WNY Restaurant Association

February 20, 2025

Lancaster, NY – On Tuesday, Congressman Nick Langworthy (NY-23) hosted a roundtable with the WNY Restaurant Association on the Trump Administration and House Republicans’ tax cut plan and other critical service industry issues.

The roundtable conversation included tax priorities such as President Trump’s Tax Cuts and Jobs Act (TCJA) and the No Tax on Tips Act, both of which Congressman Langworthy supports. The group also discussed Congressman Langworthy’s Energy Choice Act legislation, which would prohibit states like New York from attempting to ban the use of natural gas and other forms of energy that are integral to the operation of a restaurant.

Attendees included local stakeholders from the Angry Buffalo, Johnson’s Landing, Magruders Pub and Banquet Hall, Anderson’s Custard, Glen Park Tavern, Symposium Wine Bar, Buffalo’s Best Catering, and Lancaster Coffee Company.

According to the Tax Foundation, New York State’s tax system ranks 50th overall on the 2025 State Tax Competitiveness Index. This is due to high rates and a burdensome regulations. In 2024, the National Federation of Independent Business conducted a study among New York small business owners. The most severe issue ranked by small business owners included state taxes on business income, unreasonable government regulations, and federal taxes on business.

“Our service industry is vital to the local community and restaurants are the heart of our small business economy. It is important to me to continue to hold events such as this one to discuss how the federal government can help, not hurt the hospitality industry,” said Congressman Langworthy. “The first step to finding common-sense solutions to the problems these businesses are facing is having a conversation, and that is exactly what we achieved here today.”

“The New York State Restaurant Association would like to thank Congressman Langworthy for meeting with us today. As the nation’s second-largest private-sector employer, the hospitality industry is vital to the national economy and our local communities. We welcome conversations like today’s about how national policies impact real small business owners trying to keep their doors open,” said the NYSRA
