Congressman Langworthy Announces Over $8.4 Million in Federal Funding for Akron Water and Wastewater System Enhancements
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Congressman Nick Langworthy (NY-23) announced over $8.4 million in federal loans for the Village of Akron to support critical upgrades to its water and wastewater systems. The funding, provided through the USDA’s Rural Development Program, will address Akron’s aging infrastructure and ensure a safe, sustainable water supply for residents and businesses for years to come.
“Akron’s water and wastewater systems are in desperate need of an overhaul to meet the community’s current and future needs,” said Congressman Langworthy. “This funding will allow Akron to complete major upgrades that will not only ensure safe and reliable water services but will also help protect the health of the community and the environment. I’m proud to support rural infrastructure projects like these because they’ll strengthen our local economy, create jobs, and improve the quality of life for everyone in Akron.”
The funding will support two initiatives: $2,994,000 will be dedicated to replacing the village’s aging water mains, which have experienced frequent breaks and pressure issues. The new infrastructure will use modern materials that enhance water quality and reliability, reducing maintenance costs in the long run. An additional $5,409,000 will be used to rehabilitate Akron’s sanitary sewer system, addressing deteriorated pipes and improving wastewater treatment efficiency.
