Congressman Langworthy Announces Over $347,000 in Federal Funding for State-of-the-Art Research Equipment for Alfred University
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Congressman Nick Langworthy announced that Alfred University will receive a federal grant from the National Science Foundation (NSF) in the amount of $347,740. This funding will be used to purchase a state-of-the-art in-situ infrared spectroscopic ellipsometry system that will be critical for driving forward research in fields like Ceramic Engineering, Glass Science, Materials Science & Engineering, Biomaterials Engineering, and Mechanical Engineering.
“I’m pleased to announce this significant investment in our Southern Tier students and the future of our region,” said Congressman Langworthy. “This new equipment will make Alfred University a leader in their research fields and will lay the groundwork for stronger industry connections, driving economic growth and attracting new business opportunities to our community. I’ll always work to bring home funding that supports education, innovation, and job creation in our district.”
Alfred University President Mark Zupan added,“With the addition of this infrared system to our existing setup, Alfred University will be the only institution in the region offering such a wide range of temperature and wavelength measurements, which will have a major impact on both our academic research and our industry partnerships. The grant will also provide incredible access to world-class equipment at the undergraduate student level while allowing for cross-cutting work featuring Alfred University’s unique capabilities in ceramics engineering and glass science. We are grateful for the support from Congressman Langworthy and the National Science Foundation that will help us to expand our impact, driving both educational excellence and regional economic growth.”
According to the NSF, the research projects enabled by this instrument could potentially have major technological impacts on various academic and manufacturing fields. The NSF is focused on awarding grants that support research, innovation, and discovery, which provide the foundation for economic growth
