Congressman Langworthy Announces More Than $300,000 in Grants for the Seneca Nation of Indians to Enhance Transportation Safety
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Congressman Nick Langworthy (NY-23) announced the award of two federal grants to the Seneca Nation of Indians, totaling $308,288. These grants, part of the U.S. Department of Transportation’s Tribal Transportation Program Safety Fund (TTPSF), are set to support critical safety initiatives within the Seneca community.
“I’m proud to announce more than $300,000 in federal funding to supplement the efforts of Seneca Nation of Indians to enhance transportation safety within their community,” said Congressman Langworthy. “This investment will play a crucial role in updating safety plans and implementing speed reduction measures, ultimately fostering a safer environment for all. As I continue to work with the Seneca Nation, I look forward to witnessing the positive impact these projects will have.”
The first grant of $10,000 will be directed toward updating the Seneca Nation's existing Transportation Safety Plan, including strategic measures to enhance both vehicular and pedestrian safety.
The second grant, amounting to $298,288, will fund the Speed Reduction and Data Collection Project. This initiative focuses on implementing speed reduction measures and establishing a robust system for speed data collection. By reducing traffic speeds and accurately monitoring high-risk areas, the project aims to significantly decrease the severity and frequency of traffic accidents. Reliable speed data will further enable evidence-based decision-making, ensuring targeted interventions for long-term safety improvements.
According to the U.S. Department of Transportation, the TTPSF aims to promote transportation safety within tribal communities by providing resources to develop and implement safety strategies tailored to their unique needs.
